Special General Meeting

Tuesday, 30th November 7:30pm

At the AGM in May this year, it was agreed that the Board would undertake a sustainability and priorities review before returning to the Membership before the end of the year with proposals to recruit a Rabbi. The Board has now completed its review of the Synagogue’s finances and long-term sustainability and is in a position to bring recommendations to the membership in respect of two of the Community’s priorities – Rabbinic recruitment and the renewal of the building.

A Special General Meeting has been arranged for Tuesday 30 November at 19.30 to discuss both of these important issues and to agree courses of action. This will take place as an online meeting via zoom. Further details and information will be provided in advance of the meeting.

At the AGM in May, the resolution that was agreed also referred to a member consultation in advance of the review. Unfortunately, other priorities, including our efforts to restart in-person services in the Synagogue and planning for the High Holidays, have meant that we have not had the time or resources to initiate a consultation exercise. The Trustees have, however, spoken to many members of the community and it is clear that there is an overwhelming desire to recruit a Rabbi as quickly as possible. With that aim in mind, we propose to press ahead with the SGM and to provide the opportunity for members to provide their views at the meeting and for a period afterwards.
