Contributions to the Jewish Joint Burial Society (JJBS) entitle families to a payment of up to £3,600 towards the funeral costs.
(The JJBS reviews the level of payout each year and it is due to increase to a maximum of £4,000 from 1 January 2023.)
The current cost of a funeral at Harehills Cemetery is in the region of £4,500, which includes the purchase of the plot and preparation and filling of the grave. The balance over and above the JJBS benefit will need to be met by the member's estate.
If you have chosen to be cremated or you have already purchased a plot, the JJBS benefit should cover the funeral cost.
