In these unusual times trustees have taken the decision to share the opportunity with our members to be part of the emergency appeals for two key organisations in our community: Donisthorpe Hall and Leeds Jewish Welfare Board.

Both of these organisations are experiencing an unprecedented need for their services at the same time as unprecedented staff and equipment shortages to deliver these services. Further details for each appeal are below. If you are able to help by making a donation, then please do so.

LJWB CRISIS APPEAL

TOGETHER we will face this crisis.

We have radically changed our services to meet the ongoing challenges of the crisis caused by the coronavirus outbreak. We are anticipating an 100% increase in the demand for our services.

LJWB has responded to the needs of the community for 142 years and now we need your help more than ever before.

DONISTHORPE HALL EMERGENCY APPEAL

Covid 19 is something nobody has seen the like of before. It has had enormous consequences for all of us.

For Donisthorpe Hall the consequences are particularly daunting.

  • We anticipate about a quarter of our staff may be off sick with the virus at any one time. Carers and nurses are already in short supply so we will have to employ agency staff that often cost nearly double.
  • Residents who contract Covid 19 unlikely to be suitable for hospital care. They will have to be barrier nursed. There will be an enormous extra cost in staff.
  • This year we will not be able to carry out the fundraising on which we rely
    • Some of our business supporters have already indicated that they will have to suspend support for the time being.
  • Transport is already operating a very reduced service so we have to provide transport to ensure staff can get to and from work.

The way we look after our precious elderly and needy is the cornerstone of our Jewish ethos.

Donisthorpe specialises in looking after dementia residents who are often the most challenging in our society.

It would be unthinkable that our community could lose this resource.

WE ARE HAVING AN EMERGENCY APPEAL TO HELP DONISTHORPE AND ITS VULNERABLE RESIDENTS SURVIVE THIS ORDEAL.

We know you are all struggling but we need your help urgently.
