Sinai Synagogue home page

Every year for one week, Sinai hosts a night shelter for destitute asylum seekers. This year our week is in December.

Up to ten men will make Sinai their home for the week and we want to make the week as comfortable and welcoming as we can, We will need volunteers throughout the week to spend time with the men: helping them prepare their  evening meals and breakfast and staying overnight. We are also looking for volunteers  to drive them to centres where they can shower.

There are “ behind the scenes” jobs too, like: unpacking the beds and bedding at the start of the week and packing up again at the end; laundering the bedding and towels at the start of the week and the men’s personal clothing during the week; shopping for food throughout the week or donating food or money to help the shelter function.

There are also administrative tasks such as keeping a record of expenditure and donations for the week; contacting volunteers and helping plan the rota.

All the volunteers who have helped with the shelter over the last four years have really enjoyed the experience and have made new friends in the process. We wonder if you would like to offer to help in some way?

To get confirmation of the date of the shelter and offer help in any way please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and one of the shelter Steering group will get back to you.
