Conversion to Judaism is a profoundly beautiful and challenging experience. The process of conversion, which lasts  a minimum of twelve months (but will usually take longer) is highly involved and includes high expectations including: attending a year of group classes; meeting individually with Cantor Rachel Weston; attending services regularly (meaning at least half of the Shabbat services offered over the course of a month and all festival services. Unless it represents a significant financial hardship, it is expected that work and study schedules are moved around for the sake of the Jewish holidays.)

The first stage is to make contact with the synagogue by contacting the office, preferably by phone on 0113 266 5256. The office is manned Monday-Wednesday and Friday 9.30-2.30 and Thursday 10.00-12.00 excluding Jewish and public holidays. In these uncertain times we have to ensure the security of the community. This means that once you make an initial contact, you will be required to go through a security clearance process before you will be allowed to attend events at the synagogue. While awaiting the security clearance, we will arrange contact via phone or Zoom with both Cantor Rachel Weston and the lay leader of the conversion classes.

Once the security clearance is completed, we expect to see potential converts at services and other events in the synagogue. 

In order to begin the conversion process at Sinai, you need to first be willing to accept the intensity of the programme. Conversion to Judaism is very different from conversion to other religions. Please come and talk to us and ask any questions you may have.
